The ovals give an idea of angle on the floor (especially when looking only at the bottom part of the picture). The top part of the picture explains the real situation. Very nice.
The top left corner distracts a bit though.

Great Catch! Very interesting photo that grabs and keeps your attention. Good strong composition, the little girl just makes this shot.

Very nice shot. I like the bottom portion more than the top - upper left is a bit busy for my taste. I like how your attention is grabbed by the bottom portion and then drawn toward the upper right with the little girl so you can see what's going on. Very cool.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm disappointed that the street activity is disappointing, but my goal was to show that you came across this display walking along the street and not at a museum or fine art park.

that's really strange. i like the composition with the hole in the front and the girl watching to a deeper world. well done!

Thanks! I'm not sure if he did the kill or not. I was leaving work and saw him already eating in the field next to our parking lot. Fortunately I had my camera with me. He was very large and let me get pretty close. After I got that look, I stopped trying to inch closer.

Parabola of the life, a race against time?
In all the cases, beautiful composition and good choice for shoot. With the next one.

I think this image has been beautifully captured. The contrasts of light and dark make for a very dramatic as well as interesting image. It's full of texture and vitality...

Thank you, I greatly appreciate it!

The only thing I don't like about the shot is that I took it with my old 3.3MP camera which really can't be blown up too big. I'd love to be able to enlarge it and have it framed.

Thanks! I was shocked that I was able to snap the shot a split-second before his mouth closed.

The horse gets lost proportionally, both in terms of composition and (subsequently) contextually. The best thing to do would have been ot pull the horse toward the front of the room, and have it be the primary subject by placing it in the foreground.
The shot seems quite grainy - might that be noise from shooting with a high ISO? In this case your subjects are stationary, so you should have used a longer exposure - you would have needed a tri-pod, or something simple to place the camera on. Even the floor, propped upward by your shoe or that piece of wood laying on the floor.
I would have also preferred a slightly different angle, allowing us to see the stairs slightly from the side. The straight lines lack creative tension, and the diagonal of the stairs might have helped.
Never be afraid to work a scene, or to take your time. I have found that to be the hardest discipline. And shooting digital allows us to take a shot over and over until we get it right.
Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this as is. The "horse" at this distance gives the feeling of solitude to me - a lost toy, a hopeful toy, waiting for someone new to discover it in this large empty space. To me, a shot closer in would take away the feeling of aloneness or solitude. I personally wouldnt change anything.
Neuner said 1 year ago:
I'm glad to hear that people see the solitude & sadness of the horse and how it was left. The horse is where I found it, facing the steps like it wanted to get out of this huge lonely basement. There is no way I was going to move it for a photo, for that is the way I found it and what made it interesting in the first place. I think to 'set it up' would take away from the original idea.
I think the stairs at an angle is a good idea and I tried this for the shot but with all of the columns it made it difficult to get both the stairs, emptiness & the horse together.
sssuperaly added a critique 1 year ago:
Yeah, I agree with the rest here. This shot shows a side of solitary and portrays a story or some sort. I like how the place seems abandoned and suddenly there's a horse out of nowhere. Haa. I guess a shot at a different angle would portray something better? Just a suggestion but great picture though

I like this urban feeling, but could be better comp.

Do you know what kind of hawk you shot? I think that I met a relative of this bird. (See hawk on My Page) They both ordered the same thing for dinner, but my hawk has yellow breast feathers.
