I agree with all of the above. I really like the vignette effect. Not easy to do on a Zone 5 or 6 sky without lots of clouds. Quiet inspiration.

Neuner added a critique 20 days ago:

Very Cool. I'm curious as to what a shot would look like if the tree was directly in front of the sun.

boyd added a critique 15 days ago:

Way cool shot, Clyde. Great in every category listed.

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 14 days ago:

great shot!
and amazing silhouette!
the tree almost looks like it belongs in a dr.seuss book
:]

Pradeep (Pradeep P) added a critique 4 days ago:

well really nice colors

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) added a critique 17 days ago:

Great composition and nice colors. I feel the image is a tad less sharp though.

Smooch added a critique 15 days ago:

Very relaxing image. I love the color. I guess I'll have to fight Beamer for the hammock though.

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 14 days ago:

i love the contrast of the colors and the composition

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 10 days ago:

I took a few looks at this picture before, and I'm sorry to say it: it doesn't appeal to me. Usually, I like these angles and the light coming from different directions is very good, too. Only it looks like somebody had multiple pictures and melted it together... there isn't much connection between the different parts of the whole scene. I can't describe it really, I hope you understand my words a bit.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) added a critique 10 days ago:

Unless this IS a montage, it's one of the craziest pieces of architecture I've ever seen. And as such, I very much like it. The different parts of this building don't go together AT ALL, and you captured that very well. Beautiful in its uglyness.
Very well spotted.

kseniaC (ksenia) said 9 days ago:

i thank you for being completely honest with me sfkp and i can understand your views on the photo. This was actually taken at the San Francisco's new Academy of Sciences where fantastic architecture was found everywhere. I just happened to stumble upon this view as i was walking through the museum and thought that it would be an interesting capture and i really liked that it WAS different, and somewhat out of place. i described it as a mixture of greco-roman and contemporary influence, old meets new, something that was somewhat abnormal. And i can completly understand the hesitance towards the photo and really really appreciate your thoughts on the photo.

i completly agree with you afoklala. the rest of the builiding was just as interesting..especially the roof :] and i thank you for the compliments of the capture

Neuner added a critique 8 days ago:

The different building elements are very interesting, but I'm not too keen on the composition. Something seems lacking that I can't put my finger on. Without being there it's hard to say what could be improved. The layered/wavy ceiling grabbed my attention first and I was wanting to see more of it but then I noticed the other elements. Maybe it's the lack of direction but it's hard to distinguish what you are exactly getting at unless you explain it verbally. Maybe a less angled shot down the columns showing the concrete wall in the background with the wavy ceiling above would have helped or if you shot up at one of the columns with the ceiling in the background and the concrete wall to the side, but again it is hard to say without being there.

I too frankly feel there is nothing too great about this!

@Ambrosia: Thanks, I think I agree. This was shot digital and converted to B&W using Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro. Those plugin's do a really great job. I also have a roll of FP4+ I shot the same evening that I have not processed yet. I am anxious to see what the film looks like!!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 month ago:

@All: This is a good example of what you gain from 16bit raw conversions. The smoothness of the grad in the sky from left to right and the subtle difference of the tones in the light shafts would not be possible in an 8 bit workflow. I know the file size is huge, but well worth it, imo. I do all my raw conversions to 16 bit and I scan with my Nikon coolscan in 14 bit which gets output at 16 bit. I am in the process of adding more RAM to my pc and upgrading to 64bit Vista to deal with the heavier filesizes created from the new scanner and now the new Nikon d90 I just bought.

Very nice. Makes my eyes zig-zag back & forth down to the bottom.

misu (Mikhail Palinchak) said 10 days ago:

Multy-layred mountains. Well deserved feature!

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) said 9 days ago:

All those shades of grey...
I like that the bottom right is quite 'real', whereas the top left is dreamy, fairy tale like, with a gradual transition between them.

Ana, this made me laugh out loud! Thanks for sharing this risque photo with us!

Well, he's at least man's best friend. I rather think this is covered by the "artistic" part of the topic (artistic license -- no test or proof of insurance necessary). Good fun!

refocus (andy kämpf) said 5 months ago:

this by far the most stunning picture i see for ages... ;-)

Ana (Ana Cortez) said 5 months ago:

@refocus. If you say so.
:)

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) said 10 days ago:

Almost fell off my chair when I saw what topic you posted this to.
But since nobody else seems to comment on anything but the topic:
I love the composition of this. There would be a rather big chunk of grey, but you broke it up nicely with the belt and the bone. Not just a joke, but a good picture in itself!

Careful Beamer. I think the last time I told someone something wasn't a macro, I was banished or something similar.
:)
You musta had some good snacks to keep this critter in such good pose.

Love it! Tony "the squirrel" Soprano. :)

Neuner added a critique 20 days ago:

I really like this as well. Wish the DOF was a little bigger but still great that the focus is more on the eyes. So how many shots did you fire off to get this?

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) said 20 days ago:

Eight shots.

I think the slight out of focus horse, totally makes the shot, I love it, a fav for me :)

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) said 21 days ago:

Thank you so much Will

Neuner added a critique 20 days ago:

I'm having trouble seeing your different message. I get it, but it still is too easily taken that you used autofocus and the camera focused on the barbed wire instead of the horse.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 18 days ago:

hm.. also wenn ich ehrlich bin is mir des bild zu matt und zu hell... ausserdem wärs cooler wenn der fokus auf dem pferd läge

Great shot. I like the fading passers-by as much as the double phone boots. Great effect of the partial saturation.

stilfoto (Stefan Nielsen) added a critique 4 months ago:

One of the rare occasions where I like selective saturation - but I think it would have been better if you had pulled back a little on the red. It's a bit too bright red imo. But all in all it's a good picture...

janlykke (Jan Lykke) said 4 months ago:

/Jan :-)

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 21 days ago:

It's a pity those are being removed.

Neuner added a critique 20 days ago:

I really like the selective saturation. Normally I don't care for it, but it appears more natural in this image. Great exposure.
