The fog and morning light gave everything a blue tint.

I like the location you chose and how the fence "runs" through the picture. The winter (lack of)light creates a great atmosphere. The photo would be cool, even without the effect, but it certainly adds something and fits perfectly the action.

I personally wouldn't worry about the horizon - it looks like they're on a bit of a slope anyway. I looked straight at their faces so didn't notice the blown-out highlights immediately, but now everyone else has mentioned them...

I really enjoy how you've "blown" out the highlights since to me, it really makes me focus on their faces. I'm constantly drawn to what is (after much concentration) the left girls shoe in the air. It's distracting and looks a little out of place with the processing.

I like the grain, the tight crop, the black blacks. In fact, I would burn in completely the extraneous stuff around your face to complete black.

Obviously, what the other people said: the eyes are really strong. I'm not so convinced about the grainy picture, I think it's a little bit too much. Especially the graininess of the background is a bit too light. If you look at this picture from a distance, it's not really noticable and looks much better.

Great eyes and great dimples - too grainy - not necessary in a shot like this - really distracts from a great face!

@kadenajack: actually, the bird was in a state of shock. It had just been chased by a falcon and had barely escaped. For a couple of minutes, it was standing there without any reaction, but then came back to reality and flew off. It was quite an experience.

Your crop is a good idea, I shall try it. What saddens me is that I'll lose the bare feet of the girl, which I think add a lot to the composition.

@doilyboy: you're right that it's not supposed to be a portrait. Actually, I don't really know what it's supposed to be :)

I agree that cropping is required here - but perhaps you can get away with just below the feet - cropping at the top of the frame here is pretty much a must as I find my eye distracted by the upper portion.

Very nice photo. I think a tighter crop would make it a little better.

I like the story that this pictures tells- the girl is so captivated by the bird, you can feel her worry. A little tighter crop would benefit.

Great shot and story - I wouldn't crop it if it means losing the girl's feet!

Agree, very pretty. The diagonal dark cloud transition in the upper sky feels odd and heavy, not sure if there is anything you could do to make it feel more gradual/softer to match better the feels of the rest of the sky?
