wow, nice color, and vignetting...

Way to capture the moment! I wonder if cropping in from the right - knocking out everything to the right of that last arch on the jungle gym, or even a bit farther, right up to the tree - might have made a stronger composition.

Love the pic! How you captured the kid just reaching what looks like the height of it's swing is great. Really like the vintage look with the coloring. The only thing I would have changed maybe is a little more sky between the feet and the top of the picture. Overall great picture! :-)

I really, really like this. It's so straight and simple, but there's just something different and ultimately interesting about it. I keep coming back to it.

a very good & authentic portrait.

I only wish there was a little more light under the hat - not easy to do unless you have the equipment and the time - otherwise love the natural light and subject. Nice work!

Wonderful candid portrait!

This is terrific - the lighting, the expression, the depth of field, the lot. Nice job.

This picture does a great job of conveying mood and personality. I think that it could have benefited from a little less detail in the background.

MarkDM (Mark Dodge Medlin) added a critique 1 year ago:

True, a little shallower depth of field would have been nice, but the strong light and pensive expression make this an effective portrait.

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

This photo would work better with less DOF. With the low light level a wider aperture should have been possible. And, the child's hand is out of focus.

Still, this is a wonderful portrait and the exposure is perfect. The lack of perspective distortion really adds to the scene. In a way, the wide DOF does give this photo context (suburbia). This is a "decisive moment" photograph. It was far more important to capture the facial expression than perfect the in-focus/out-of focus areas.
