Now that's DOF control – impressive.

Fantastic shot John. Only thing I'd like to see is the left wing not cut off, but I know how hard it is to catch insects in the first place... Great colors.

Amazing. Great work!

WOW! Great photo. I really like the detail in the face!

Great angle - with the sky mostly blocked out, the building looks very imposing. I like the limited color palette, too.
psychodudu (Andrew Parker) said 1 year ago:
Thanks Mark. It's cross-processing that helped create the effect. The church is a little imposing anyway, because it's a stark religious-type image...

Thanks for the feature everyone! Hope your weather is as good as ours is in Norway...

It's fun that your subject is positioned so that he or she blends in so well with the branches.

Flamenco guitarists, Seville, Spain, October 2006. Handheld, two-second exposure.
willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:
This does very little for me. The blur is way over done. Seated guitarists are not dynamic subjects. I think this would be much more interesting if only their arms and hands were blurred to this extent.
It may be that the light was so low your lens required a 2 s. exposure. In so, you did the best you could. If this was the case, now you know why people use fast (< f 2.0) lenses.

You make good points, willie. As you guessed, I was shooting in low light. Although I could have gotten away with maybe a one-second exposure with my glorified point-and-shoot, I chose a longer exposure to experiment with blurring. Thanks for your comments.

Realy too blury to me, too sad, it could be a good photo, lights and feelings seem to be great.

Great photo - I agree with everyone else. Nice composition, nice work!
byutanner (Jason Tanner) added a critique 1 year ago:
Yeah it creates a great sense of drama
Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:
Nicely done. The sky may be a tad unnatural looking, but I still really like the dramatic flavor you achieved.

Interesting shot. Good tone

I would like to see some motion in those sails. That would improve the shot.

It is a symmetry of the outfit but I think some people will not see this here....;)
For me this shot is one of my favorites from your work!!
VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:
symetry on the upper part
then die diagonal lines
then the hats
lots of symetric elements
good.
;-)
ArneG (Arne Gulstene) said 1 year ago:
This isn't one of those shots thats going to poke you in the eye with the symmetry - you gotta work for it.
taikrixel (thomas mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
i like the image very much, because of the unknown things in the bg. and the symetric elements are nice composed.
bokeh-junior (Ed Simons) added a critique 1 year ago:
No symmetry for me but I like the way the men are looking out to something that I can't see. I get the feeling that they are on top of a skyscraper. There is just enough detail in the side of the face to make it a good shot.

Great eye to see that. Are they both wearing the same hat?
boughey (Adrian Boughey) said 1 year ago:
@byutanner
I don't think so, but it's close enough.
methan (András Németh) said 1 year ago:
superb shot, love this one.
do you speak hungarian, or did they speak english, that you understood them?
boughey (Adrian Boughey) said 1 year ago:
haha no I do not speak Hungarian, only köszönöm, igen, and nem. My brother-in-law studies in Budapest so he has a better idea, but sometimes you can just tell when people are not happy about something. Maybe they were saying something like...'why do these stupid english tourists find our hats so funny?' ;o)

I like this picture. It also could fit with the "solitude" topic

I like this lightless picture. And whitout the light (different frame without the streetlight ?)
KidJim (Jean Marc Veliscek) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this image -- it's very graphic and put a stange mood, the compo with all these lines is also very subtle..- really nice
there 's nothing i see that could/would improve your image !
jdtate101 (James Tate) added a critique 1 year ago:
Face is dark and menacing...am I going to be mugged?? Nice broody atmosphere.
MarkDM (Mark Dodge Medlin) added a critique 1 year ago:
Great mood; the foggy breath is a nice touch. Cropping in to lose the trees on the right might give you a stronger image - your subject's head wouldn't be right in the middle of the frame. For what it's worth, I like the street light; I think it adds to the atmosphere.

National City, California, February 2007. Somehow, these castoff pieces look to me like forlorn little "Star Wars" drones. How much of a nerd does that make me?
I really like the muted colors, and the macro focus is right on the money. Man, insect eyes are just creepy sometimes.
