I agree, I think that cropping the sky a little bit would really emphasize the nice curve of the road here. Nice shot.
Ben (Downing) said 1 year ago:
thanks, I apppreciate the comments - cropping does make a picture. thanks again.

I like this pic, but I've got a problem with the "empty right part". Shot a little bit more to the left could be better for me

this works great as a b&w, cool shot

I fully agree with eli here!
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:
@simonlloyd, moeview
This topic is named "long exposure" and long exposures typically result in floating water looking like on the image. Looking like being frozen
I like the scene itself, but the composition is not the best, and these twigs on the left are distracting. Turning the camera more to the right so the person is in the left third and these branches can't be seen any more would improve the image a lot.
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:
Interesting, but a little static. Nice grayscale, but the photo lacks pop.
Best,
Jon

Perfect for this topic. The b&W works well for this shot. I would have used the first arch as a natural top frame. Otherwise, well done.

Nice composition and perspective. I like the tonality. Very well done.

Great image. No criticism. What's the story behind the building?

The DOF in this shot doesn't really seem that shallow - there's still plenty of detail in the background.
Marco (Marc-Antoine VACHON) added a critique 1 year ago:
I don't like the center position of the flower
jaapv added a critique 1 year ago:
The background is too obtrusive, and the flower looks like it has been plonked in the middle by photoshop.
AndreiMorar (Andrei Morar) added a critique 1 year ago:
Too centered, too many useless details around the flower. Crop, crop , crop!
cashleym (Ashley Tanner) added a critique 1 year ago:
I also would crop it a bit more, but I love the coloring in the flower!

it was a long exposure, the ferris wheel is actually the London Eye, it goes very very slowly , and was not working in the morinng, the exposure was 12 seconds
schupin (Sylvain chupin) added a critique 1 year ago:
Like Bastian, I didn't thought it was a long exposure shot before reading your comment. I think this topic have been created to show effects of long exposure shots (that we don't see here)
But the shoot is great, nothing to say about that !
simonlloyd (Simon Lloyd) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this shot of the Eye. It's a nice crop with good colours. I think sometimes the comments on here can be focussed too much around the commentators own interpretation of the topic.
Surely Long Exposure doesn't have to show motion blur? Using the long exposure to get more light and colour in is a perfectly valid use.
Marco (Marc-Antoine VACHON) added a critique 1 year ago:
It would have been nice to have a little bit more of the lower part. I think you cut it a little bit too high.
but nice shot!
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
Agreed with Simon in that this was weighed to heavily by not showing blur or some sort of movement; why does that have to be a criteria for long exposure? I think this shot is fantastic... I like how the colors from the light are reflected on the building surfaces. Nicely cropped and framed - If you'd plan to add text or anything, might move the image up a little on the canvas. I'd also like to see more of the river if there's more reflection to see, but doubt that there was much to see here. I appreciate how you showed such a small portion of the ferris wheel.

Too many diturbing shapes in the background.
Claremont (Jon Claremont) added a critique 1 year ago:
When I saw this one in the rating choices bit of Vazaar I clicked on it every time.
The movement blur shows just what it must be like for this kid and much better than a pin sharp studio portrait photo.
And, I have only just seen it's a jaapv photo. It's not your typical work that I've seen before and it's nice to see another side to your photography.
jaapv said 1 year ago:
Flattered,Jon, thanks. I see what you mean Bastian, but well, that was the place she was playing and I did blur as much as I could (f 1.5) Thanjs Biolarzen.
Marco (Marc-Antoine VACHON) added a critique 1 year ago:
I will prefer it if the background wasn't blur. Everything is blury and it's disturbing for me

A little bit too plain. Looks like an average sky.
kyla (Kyla) added a critique 1 year ago:
Unfortunately the plane nor the setting sun does not do enough to captivate. It needs more punch. There is too much blue space and the clouds are too wispy. Although I am a fan of minimalism I don't find this fits into that category either.
cheguillaume (Pierre-Yves cheguillaume) added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree with kyla maybe it could fit in minimalism. But it's my personal point of view.
Effectivement, il est probable que cela soit plus du ressort du minimalisme que du topic skyscape. C'est un point de vue personnel.

The pic without the water in front could be cool. Me eye focus on the water and not the statue. And they're too much highlights spot.
schupin (Sylvain chupin) added a critique 1 year ago:
Like others, I don't the water on the front is necessary. We don't focus on the statue
Andeton added a critique 1 year ago:
mmmhh nice shoot...love the eye level angle...maybe an out of focus issue on the eyes, try to get the statue and the drop in focus and you should use a faster shutter speed to freze the water.
janiskir added a critique 1 year ago:
Hard to get all the layers in focus when you're taking a shot like this. Nice focus on the face.
paulflury (elp) added a critique 1 year ago:
Marvelous. I may be in the minority but I like the water in font and out of focus, just as it would be if you were trying to look at a subject through a shower of water droplets

Wahou.
White light seems more to an effect than other but it works well. Near a computer image.
Congrats.
Nicely done. I love the graceful curve. I do wonder though if it would be more powerful with a tighter crop.
