I'm not really liking this, sorry. The face is partly hidden, the sky completely overexposed and the background seems to have a motion blur. There also is a disturbing halo around the legs.

This could have been an interesting composition in landscape mode with the "photographer" to the far right, but isn't as striking in the current orientation.

I agree with you completely regarding the background and the legs - my intention was to create DOF, but I've obviously failed miserably! The picture isn't processed enough to imply artistic license, and conversely processed poorly. I think I know what process steps to try instead. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

As far as the sky, it was blown out upon the taking; perhaps I could've worked this one better and submitted it to the high key topic instead.

I disagree about the face - most all of the faces in the Photographer topic are only partially showing, if at all, and I like his distinct profile. Artistically to me showing only part of his face adds to the mystery of the person behind the camera.

As far as cropping horizontally, it wasn't an option with this picture, as it was taken with the intention of the subject framing the right side, and I like the look and texture of his jeans, along with the movement of the camera cord hanging alongside.

However, great pictures shouldn't need explaining, so I appreciate your observations. I won't be so quick to upload next time.

Very interesting...
I like the DOF. The subject is sharp as a tack.
I agree with your comments on their face. It fits the topic in my opinion.
I think the composition is a bit off also.
I think you need a bit of negative space on the side of the subject.
Also it might work a bit better if the foot was not cut off!

Good work. i would love to see more of this type.

@Kerri: please don't be discouraged of uploading here because of my comments, it should even be the other way around: upload until all we can do is praise your shots :)

About his face, I see now what you were trying to achieve, but I think this would have worked only if his face had been clearly detached against a clear background. Here, the camera has almost the same tones than his skin, which steals even more focus from it.

About PP, what were you trying to achieve? Adding artificial lens blur on the background? If so, you need to have a layer mask adjusted to the pixel (photoshop magical tools help here but you almost always need to finish the job manually, which can be tedious) and take into account the distance of the blurred object to the in-focus subject (i.e. the closer the background is to the feet of the man, the sharper it will need to be). A gradient layer mask should work fine for this. Also be sure to use a lens blur (available in latest versions of PS) or at the very least a gaussian blur, but not a motion blur (unless you are aiming for something completely different).

Eventually, what I meant about the horizontal composition was that with a wider lens (or by stepping back, if possible), you could have had the cameraman on the far right and a large space (possibly empty) representing what he is shooting. Of course, this would have had a different message, but this is what *I* would have wanted to shoot in those circumstances, I think :)

I hope that helps and that you will keep posting here.

Cheers.
