I also like the idea of a different way of cropping the picture. What if you cropped it so that the top of the picture was the very tops of the fence posts? I think that the area above that in the picture is uninteresting and the bike blends into the trees too much. The bottom part of the picture has much more interesting contrast that makes my eyes bounce around as compared to the top part of the picture which is more gray. I think the softness of the picture works well really. :) Overall it's a really nice picture I think!

I agree with Samantha That would turn a good picture into a striking one.

Laurie (Laurie) said 1 year ago:

Hmmm...worth a try. I will crop it and resubmit it.

Fabulous sky/sunset shot...I love how you can see the sun peaking through the clouds!

jodosh (Johnny Haddock) said 1 year ago:

thanks a lot for the critiques

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this shot is great. I do agree the top should be cropped a bit as I feel it takes away from the detail of the darker clouds and sun. It is a very nice photo nonetheless. Good work!

jodosh (Johnny Haddock) said 1 year ago:

if anyone is intrested I uploaded a cropped image here vazaar.com/topic:skyscapes/responses/response:375/

Thank you boyd and rachel; this shot was in the middle of a pretty heavy snow storm just after dawn, believe it or not. I drive by these trees everyday and wanted to capture the feel of them in fog/snow. I appreciate the feedback.

Sincerely,
TB

I've passed this type of scene a million times as well as tried to photograph this scene a million times. You nailed it. Congrats! I haven't been so lucky!!! Beautiful photo.

Jenseye (Jen) added a critique 1 year ago:

What a great image!

oz_sprog (Will Williams) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love the starkness of the scene, the grass in the snow might be a bit distracting though. Wonderful composition of 3's.

Gecko (Can Cellek) added a critique 11 months ago:

A good rythm of the trees, a great usage of emptiness and a great contrast of colors. Actually I was expecting another tree between the two trees from the left, but anyway, this shot is wonderful...

reminds me a little of the little shop of horrors.

I wish the seeds were in focus as well as the wispy cottony stuff. I also might clone out the out of focus loop on the right hand side. I think it distracts some from the image.

Jenseye (Jen) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great detail...nicely done

Ana (Ana Cortez) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is wonderful. I'd not change a thing, aside from letting a bit more room to the left side.
Amazing close up.

This is a very unique shot, really makes you check every detail closely to see where things begin and end. The only thing I can say is that maybe you could have cropped the bottom just a bit and gotten rid of the lower right and left edges. The right edge is dark (assuming part of the shoreline) and the left has a little white something...Otherwise fantastic!

diezel99 added a critique 1 year ago:

A nice photo.....you should have moved slightly left and nixxed the shadow.

Ocean said 1 year ago:

Thanks all. I actually use this as one of my self portrait type of pics, thus the "self-port" comment. There is a double meaning in "self-port". Much of the photo is very symbolic of me. (My nickname is "Ocean", but I can never reach any horizon. I long for adventure on the high seas, yet my "boat" (myself), is stuck chained to land. Even my "shadow" is blocked from the ocean by a mountain of sand. Still, its a nice, warm, although fading dream.) So, ...besides the shadow... Any more constructive criticism? Would this pic have gone over well under a self-portrait topic, or is it too symbolic? Thanks again.

ikol22 (Fabrizio Zanelli) added a critique 1 year ago:

I read carefully its history and how it's related to some symbols. Calling "self-port" mixing your shadow, the boat and the sea it's perfect in the contest I assume you do some of your photos and probably show them.

Here, I personally don't see it as a "self portrait" because in my simple mind a self portrait it's a self portrait but if you give a look in this topic you will find... everything so, please, pass over to my feeling and isert it if you like.

Talking about the photo I find it with too much contrast and / or too sharp. A part that light, colours and clouds are wonderful

imagenature (Alexander Belokurov) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice sunset colours, but I agree that the shadow is distracting.
