This is a great look-through. I like the focus created by the light and the silhouette of the statue against the clear sky in the back. Well seen.

I'd possibly do a little perspective work, by pulling out those bottom two corners?
Otherwise, this is sweetness.
JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 5 months ago:
I like it. It's a good shot. Nice composition and use of the light and dark. (I was going to ask if the floor and columns in the foreground could be lightened just a tiny, tiny bit... but nix it. It's good as is.)
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 5 months ago:
Thanks guys this is another one converted using Nik Software's Silver FX Pro, great plugin!!
@Ana, no you are sweetness!!

I agree with Jim that some out there might want to lighten the foreground ever so slightly. However, your control of light is wonderfully tight and moving from dark to bright is part of the real joy in the frame. Another image beautifully composed, well done Clyde.

Wow, this is a wonderful portrait!! Hard work and a hard life. Is that grain analog or digital?
misu (Mikhail Palinchak) said 6 months ago:
This is scaned film shot. Grain is analog!
HuubL said 6 months ago:
Is it, I just looked at the other one and that looked like digital to me.
misu (Mikhail Palinchak) said 6 months ago:
No. On that photo I after all manipulation used filter to reduse noise and grain. And on this photo I make analog grain more contrast and notable!
JBridges (Jim Bridges) said 4 months ago:
Just an awesome portrait. (The other version is good too, but doesn't have quite the same character. To me, it looks like a still from a 1930s film, for some reason--which is not a bad thing. I'd be happy to show off either version.)

Love the color and pose of your subject - great expression! I wish there was just a little more separation between your subject and other elements in the background. Very nice work in my opinion.
Best to you,
Jon

I like her...she is an interesting character. I am curious...did she know you were taking her picture either before or after.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 6 months ago:
I agree with Jon, and i would have painted out the bright white bit near the left of frame. A square crop really might focus interest/impact better here, try it, not sure?
joka (Johannes Kapp) added a critique 5 months ago:
Fine pose!
JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 4 months ago:
She is definitely an interesting subject and I absolutely LOVE the colour here. But I agree with Beamer about a slightly different crop (either just enough to take out the lighter patch on the right wall or, as he suggested, square might work). But it's a really captivating photo.

By "blur does not look natural" I meant that the dividing line between the sharp and blurred area is too distinct; making it smoother would lead to more natural blur.
HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:
I like the idea. It's a pity though that the priest's and nun's faces are (partly) hidden.
DarcoTT (Darco TT) added a critique 5 months ago:
como te han comentado más arriba creo que habría que haber intentando que no hubiera tanta diferencia entre la zona desenfocada y la enfocada, con una transición menos brusca. Y no habría desenfocado el suelo del primer plano por estar a la altura de las figuras enfocadas.
La idea es muy buena y el resultado no es malo a pesar de lo que te he dicho ;)
op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 5 months ago:
l'idée est bonne, mais j'aurais flouté toute l'image autour des personnages, cela fait bizarre qu'une partie ne soit pas floutée
JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 4 months ago:
I agree with soreks. The composition is interesting (although more faces would be nice), but the applied blur doesn't look right, both because of how "sudden" it is, but also that there are elements down the street (cars, for example) that are more in focus than the woman walking on the left side, despite being clearly further in the background. I think that is more the problem with how the blur has been applied here.

Featureless and interesting at the same time. I like the use that you have made of the colour as well as the road to provide interest here. Well done.
JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 4 months ago:
It definitely works for me for the topic, and even aside from that is just a good photo over-all.

I also agree with the above. The other photo has a subtly better composition because of the deer on top running into the picture.

I only can say... why didn't you add the other photo instead on Vazaar?!! It's so much better, interesting. btw, on the blogphoto the deers are shot from another angle and that makes them lovely to see.
mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 5 months ago:
Until I looked at the shot on your blog, I didn't even see the others! The "hole" in the middle got my attention and the animal at the top. I too like the one you posted on the blog better.
JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 4 months ago:
I'll just mirror the other comments. The photo on your blog is definitely the better of the two. The deer at the top heading into the frame leads the eye more to the other group. (It also looks like the colours are a little bit richer on the blog version--although I am not sure if that is just a trick of the light with the different background colours.)

Great idea; square crop works here; I miss the texture of the table, which would be here with greater DOF.
HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:
Hey, very creative! I only noticed because it's around 4 right now. I guess it needed my mind set ;)
sfkp (Tamara) said 5 months ago:
@ Soreks: although I used a large diafragma (F=5), a larger DOF wouldn't show any texture becouse it's completely smood of it's own. It isn't real wood, but that laminated stuff.
@ Huub: wake up, you need some coffee!! ;)

Great, simple composition. Makes me wonder what's going on besides sharing a drink!

Stunning landscape. The photo seems to get a bit unnaturally dark in the top, although I am not sure how much of that might have been lighting at the time versus processing. But it captures the starkness and texture of the landscape well.
