The church of Fismes (12th century), like many of the historic buildings in the region, was heavily damaged during the First World War.

Fismes is a small town near the city of Reims. Uderzo (The creator of Asterix and Obelix) was born here.

This is a merge of two halves. Even with my 17mm wide angle I couldn't back up farther to get the whole church in the frame.

Thanks for your comments.

Oh, and BTW, sorry for the low quality and the effects of sharpening.

Well good composition and exposure, but the low quality really ruins it.

Tough type of light and sky. I had a day like this in Joshua Tree NP recently and I was so glad I shot in brackets, saved my ass. Did you shoot any brackets? It might help here to do a little HDR type blending.

Check out:

The first one if a split tone done manually in PS, the second one is true HDR using Photomatix.

You have blended the two halves well and I like the square composition you have chosen. The treatment you have used gives a dramatic feel (regardless of the "quality") and I think that you have made the best of the light on the day - you have to work with what you've got.

De foto omzetten in B&W wil nog wel eens helpen bij afbeeldingen van een mindere kwaliteit, dan stoort het minder. Ik heb even iets uitgeprobeerd: www.edelsmidhansmulder.nl/Sufkipje/Losse%20fotos/e...

Persoonlijk vind ik b&w nog net iets dramatischer in dit geval. Maar zowiezo vind ik het erg knap wat je met deze foto hebt gedaan.

Wow...you can't even tell that it's 2 pictures put together! Good job on that. I think it's a good picture, except for the low quality.

Good work. I would add some more drama to the sky here. Also in my view the composition is just too tight.

Great structure, like the way you captured it.
