Looks very creamy :)
I would suggest toning down the highlights a bit and increasing the shadows a little bit...just my two cents...

the light is fantastic. great HDR processing. but i agree it would be perfect i the right corner wouldn't be cut off.

Wow, great shot and I'm not the only one who thinks so... This reminds me of Momo's staircase at the entrance of the Vatican museum.

For me it is a good shot, but i miss something more striking in the picture, maybe a crop a bit more out of center or a disturbing object.

CEG added a critique 7 months ago:

I really like this shot. I think the contrast between the subject and background works well. Good job!

anke-art (Anke Arnold) said 5 months ago:

Thanks a lot for all your comments. It's interesting that your opinions vary so much.
This picture was taken at my parents' home, there's a window on the right side which couldn't be shaded. So it would have been impossible to get an even lighting of the background.

joka (Johannes Kapp) added a critique 5 months ago:

special and fine!

snaps (Dana N) added a critique 4 months ago:

I wouldn't have noticed the variance in light until it was mentioned, and it makes sense. I love the simplicity of this image and that it makes me wonder about the rest of the room and what it may look like.

joli mais bon !!!! malgré le cadrage travaillé je n'accroche pas

CEG added a critique 7 months ago:

I like how the color of the flower pops out of the background. Nice job.

snaps (Dana N) added a critique 4 months ago:

Interesting take on a typical subject. I like it! I almost thought at first that you had desaturated the other flowers but was pleased to find out that they were originally white.

Nice shot, but I think it's a little too dark. I lose the chain in the background.

selaux (Sarah) said 7 months ago:

yeah, youre right. i did reprint it lighter but it is being critiqued by my teacher right now. Thanks for the comment!

photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 7 months ago:

i like this shot, the contrast is not a problem imo, i'd like to see it with a little higher crop

j'aime le rendu, on sent la rouille craquelée sur la chaine.

I like it! The moon atop the spire is a great setup. I don't mind the lean...the weeping cherry on the left seems to be pushing it from the frame.

ScottCrouse (Scott Crouse) added a critique 7 months ago:

Can't say that I like the lean all that much, I like the way the top points to the moon but this could be accomplished on a level angle. Also, there is quite a bit of sensor dust that should be cloned out.

photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) added a critique 7 months ago:

i don't know exactly why but i like this shot

ErikUnger (Erik Unger) added a critique 7 months ago:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess this what shot at Kiyomizudera in Kyoto Japan? If so, I have almost that exact same picture minus the cherry blossoms. The only thing I would nitpick is the contrast and saturation. Looks a little flat to me.

JLM (Joel Le Montagner) added a critique 6 months ago:

Trés classique mais bien vu. La lune est peut-être un peu trop prés du bord.
Manque un peu de peps...

awesome shot! Very well done! a little eery

lotr_n1 (Nathan Hauser) added a critique 8 months ago:

This is a beautiful photograph.
The extremely muted colors add to the effect.
Are the light beams digitally created or enhanced? because they are perfect.

CEG added a critique 7 months ago:

Nice job. I agree, a little eerie, but cool just the same.

I love this the colours are great and the composition is very interesting

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 6 months ago:

Very nice Eric, I love the colors and tones. I just think there is a bit too much negative space at the top. I did a scroll bar crop to a square and it feels better to me...?

Thanks Clyde for your idea and for your comment ;)

Beautiful shot. I like the angle, it makes me wonder what might be inside the flower.

ScottCrouse (Scott Crouse) added a critique 7 months ago:

Outstanding colour! Being nit picky, I thing the image could be improved by not centering the main subject. Put it off to one side and use your excellent DOF to blur the other side. But overall, a nice image mate.

koo88 added a critique 7 months ago:

I am a big fan of flower photos, but to me it is just missing something. Looking foward to seeing more. Mabye like scott said shooting it a different angle.

misu (Mikhail Palinchak) added a critique 7 months ago:

Nice macro. But background not attractive and didn't suite for this image!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 6 months ago:

I agree with Mikhail, the background is distracting, but the flower is lovely and the capture is very nicely done. A higher camera angle exposing the stamen would be more interesting and might have provided a more neutral background.

Jon,
This is not the first time you've mentioned washed out colors to me... the shot was taken w/o a UV filter on the lense, do you think that is a contributing factor? Thanks for your comments, they're very helpful.
-Pete

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 7 months ago:

I agree with Jon, and no the UV filter should not affect exposure or saturation any, if at all. Conventional wisdom is that you will loose a quarter stop or less, but the exposure meter is looking through the filter so it should not effect the exposure metering.

CEG said 7 months ago:

Beamer,
Okay, Thanks:-)

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 7 months ago:

I don't have much knowledge about washed colours and everything. My comment is that I'd love to see the construction worker's face. If you did photographed that way, it would be obviously what's the actual subject. Now you can't see it, partly becouse of the helmed and it's shadow and partly becouse of eyes staring at the ground (angle of the neck). I would also crop a tiny bit on the left, just make the beige/grey waterpump invisible.

Furthermore, I like the construction worker's composition on your photo. The 'ugly' background gives it a story.
Maybe it's a good idea to use selective saturation on the helmed?

Greetings,
Tamara

Pete,

Sorry not to have responded more quickly, but I see that Clyde has stepped up to the plate for me:-) In any case...what he said! Keep shooting, mate.
