I love the concept - but for me the execution is lacking - and here is why I think this:
Cropping: the shot as it is might have worked better if it was square - the main focus or element here is the reflection but there is too much "real estate" shown below the glasses that detract from the overall image.
Component Placement: I believe that the overall effect would be better if the shooter could move out of the field of view of the reflection and yet still capture the reflection.
Overall contrast might puch this up some. Perhaps a cross-process look or BW? For me the colours are washed and again a detracting factor.
Thanks for stepping up to the plate. :)

Thanks Arne, your thoughts were spot on... My problem is it's also a photo of three people I care dearly for (my self, the photographer, included) and I like seeing as much as I do. I definitely could capture the shot that you suggest, and should have...maybe still will! burning man...oooga.

btw, I'm gunna go play around with some different processing styles... could be fun. ;)

This is kind of frightening actually. She certainly seems to have a large fan following, whoever she is!

I'm hugely honored by your comment, philippe. Thank you... many meanings to perceive in this photo...

Everytime I see this come up I wonder what it is? I like the color combination and the abstract quality.

I'd like to see this on my dentist's office wall.
It is calming and asks lots of the viewer: I have no idea of the scale or the subject so I look all over trying to get it, and all the time liking it.

a freakshow by mother nature. :)
BodhiBlink (Tom Bodhi Reeves) said 1 year ago:
Ah, it's funny you say that Vernon, as it's merely a simple cloud layer sliced in half by a totally raging jet plane on a cold strange day... that was the day...

who is managing the clouds and the wind? :-))))

I always liked this one... not sure exactly why but it rubs me the right way. truth is I'm pretty stumped at what those are... looks like cloaked coconut trees upside-down...with funny rolls. ;)

It gives me the same feeling of warm half-asleep snoozing in the morning on a cloudy day. Much appreciated. =)

Gorgeous spot at a perfect moment... nice. A very minor notice as I stared at it critically for a second is the big stream of water on the bottom drop and the left side is a bit brownish? I would personally brighten the water juuuuuust a tad..give it that glow. :)
mitchh said 2 years ago:
Thanks for the constructive input. I corrected the color to make the brightest areas of the water neutral and let the rest fall where it may. I think the water was picking up the warm color of the surrounding rocks.

Fantastic. I just like everything about it... the colors... the darkness... the composition. It just feels very Zen-like to me. Simple.
BodhiBlink (Tom Bodhi Reeves) said 2 years ago:
Ohhhh I agree...feels like one that I should have seen and shot, in the most respectful sort of way. =) Now what could I find to critique? There's a little glowie halo around the tree branches on the bottom left... got ya! =) unless you like it, I'd do a little selectively masked, duplicate of the background layer in multiply-mode. But like I said, I'm envious and awed. Nice one.

I love it...wonderful colors and the silkiness of the water is beautiful.
uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) said 2 years ago:
Thanks for the comments.
@ Tom - I would like to talk more about your comments because I'm not getting what you mean. I don't really see the halo, but I think it might be because it belongs or is part of the original. ?? Email me.

Heh, it makes me sick to think of all the cotton candy consumed...oh and the spining flashing bending colored lights. Nice angles.

Nice capture of the carnival atmosphere, with the motion, lights, and colors.

Perfect composition, I love the shot except for the lack of ...glow. the lights streak a little and they're sharp...if it was softer and glowy-er (I'm pushing glow tonight, lol) I'd feel a lot warming looking at it. Nicely seen. =)
LynnR (Lynn Rockwell) said 2 years ago:
I seem to be having a problem with all the shots I took on that outing, in that none of the lights are in focus .... :(
Serious reflection! Very cool one.
