Awesome grain Clyde, personally I'm a big fan of it :)
I agree about the tones, might help bring out some details, fantastic find!!!

The BW conversion was not so succesful..there are too many grey on the photo.
I mostly prefer BW-photos, but in this case, i would like to see this in colorful version.

Beamer! Love the composition! I agree it could maybe benefit from a different B/W conversion to push the tones a bit, it seems there's a lot of detail in the shale that isn't getting enough love... :)
...and that does look dangerous!

Yeah, this was on the way back down from San Antonio Falls. Handheld @1000 ISO and still under exposed. I was actually trying to pull out the detail in the shale without blowing out the fog, guess that's how it got so flat. I also struggle with the white background here. The other 2 places I post images, my blog and onexposure.net both have dark/black surrounds. I sometimes end up doing 2 different color corrections.

The landslide gives this photo some natural punch and interest value (like the lava-covered roads where I live). The fog adds some mood too. I wish there were a greater range of tones as the image seems a bit flat to me...but I suppose that is the nature of fog.
I hope you weren't trying to pass this way in a car. Looks like that would have been problematic.
