Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:
@Amy, no, not frost...? Temps in the mid 50's on Sunday in the southern Mojave Desert... Very glad you like it though, thanks for the time to comment.
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 2 months ago:
Amazing photograph! There really isn't anything I can criticize in this image.

LOL! Frost! I had a little sunstroke at the end of the day I visited Joshua Tree. Next days I was more carefull.
Anyway... beautiful photo.

Wow.
The beams of light, just perfect.
Great job with this and good to see that you are mastering this HDR!
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
@ Boyd & Mike, don't really feel like a "master" yet. I still feel like I'm fumbling around with it. This may be one of my best attempts. I keep trying to get the advantage without the appearance of having used it...a tough balancing act for sure.
Thanks to all for commenting on this one!!

Great colors - great composition, Clyde. Sell it as a stock photo. Well done.
Best,
Jon
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:
Thanks jon!! I don't really know how to go about that. I looked into microstock about a year ago and they pretty much all said if you have sunsets and nice landscapes don't even bother...

Thanks guys, watching these guys for a couple of hours this past Sunday in Joshua Tree NP in California. Thought of this as soon as I saw the new Topic!

A little Velvia pano shot yesterday in Joshua Tree NP. The rock formation in the center is known as Lost Horse Wall and is a favorite among climbers.

Prefiero la otra, de hecho, me encanta; ésta tiene más ruido.

The sand lines is the most beautiful part of it and a half of them is in shadow. The hills in the background distract to an extent. Skies, bird, and sands would be well enough. I liked the processing: color and grain, texture.
HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:
The light on the sand waves is beautiful. The lonely gull adds a deserted feeling. Wonderful conversion!

This is great photo. I like B&W, tone and contrast. Bird is very cool my friend! Great image, well done!
mdellacorte added a critique 2 months ago:
Lovely image. I understand this is the new conversion with Silver Fx pro. It has much more contrast and grain. If this is how you wanted then it is OK. Personally, I prefer the other conversion which is smoother and has a wider tonal range. But either way a very nice image!

I got a real kick out of seeing this sign. I wish I had the woman back further point at the sign, but I just snapped what was happening. This is at El Segundo Beach in Los Angeles near LAX. There were 2 guys there with hang gliders giving short little rides off the 30-40 foot sand cliffs.
warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 2 months ago:
definitely not a sign you see very often. nice catch!
boyd added a critique 2 months ago:
I really appreciate how you have managed to find such an unlikely sign within such a typical scene. The sharpness across the frame and exposure work well here in the presentation of a strong shot that is apt for the topic.

the sky make the photo here
i think shadows are a bit blue and i'd love more details in the snow on the low right part
did you bring any effect here ? top right mountain seams to have 2 colors
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
@bigoode, no effects here, this is right out of the scanner. This was shot on Ektachrome in the late 1970's and recently scanned with a Nikon Coolscan. This was shot at @8000 feet elevation and the sky does get very blue up there, so there is probably a bit of Ektachrome blueish cast and a bit of blue sky reflected by the snow.

Today was a rainy day in Los Angeles. This is Dockweiler Beach which lies between LAX and the Pacific Ocean.

@lasiate What don't you like about it?? Have you never shot directly into the sun? Do you have a lens that makes a more attractive flare when you do? It doesn't say much to just say you don't like it. A lens flare is a very natural thing that happens when you point a camera directly towards the sun. Most of us are not that bothered by them and I kind of like the one's that is old Rokkor lens created in 1978. I wish I had a lens today that was this nice and would work on my Nikon bodies, but I don't...
I think this particular lens flare is quite nice. In color it is even better, but for this b&w winter scene it seems to complement the scene nicely. Much like the flare I used to see in 1978 while enjoying the warm aroma of peyote...

Clyde, a question on slide scanners. I work for a camp that has literally thousands of slides from the beginning till about 10 years ago. We're looking for one in a lower price range than the nik you've got...any suggestions on brand or model?
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
For the volume you are talking about, the Nikon with the optional bulk slide scanner would be a tremendous time saver. The only other scanner I used might be a good alternative: Epson Perfection 4990 PHOTO. This scanner can be had on eBay for @$150 - $200 used. It is discontinued, but some new ones are still available.
It comes with Digital ICE technology (a MUST for scanning old slide, does a remarkable job of cleaning them up) and a 8 slide holder, so you can batch up 8 at a time.

Another blast from the past, Clyde. I agree that the performance of this lens, based on your postings, is very high. Great contrast and detail across the frame. The flare makes me squint almost like I am standing on the ridge beside you. Thanks for sharing some more from your archives.

There seems to be too much empty space in this photo
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 3 months ago:
Brilliant work - great use of space and it tells a story about the tragedy of fire. Nice.
Best,
Jon
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
@Christie: Well now, that's kinda the point now isn't it...? I am glad that you got the point. I am sorry that you feel it is a negative or a criticism. Emptiness or "negative space" in an image can be a very powerful tool for story, drama and impact.
See Jon get's it!!

great bw work. well composed and it tells a story!
boyd added a critique 3 months ago:
Clyde, I like the bleakness that you have captured in this shot to show the devistation of a bushfire. I also think that the detail in the far mountains is very effective.
Really like the vanishing point here.
Always good to see the road less traveled.
