It fits the topic Blue very well. The lines from the windows and reflections are nice to look at. The reflected trees and the antenna totally at the right are a bit disturbing.

The more you look the more things and details you see. Well seen.

Thanks, Clyde...just what I needed to know - nice shot - thanks for posting. Great processing job.

Best,
Jon

@jon, if nobody else is, I am watching...

boyd added a critique 3 months ago:

Great colour capture here, Clyde. The post processing also does a lot to help make an ordinary subject very interesting. Well seen and composed.

Smooch added a critique 1 month ago:

Interesting image Clyde. A nice departure from the other images I've seen you post here. I like the lines, color, and reflections in this one. I don't care for the tree reflections though. Not much you can do about that. Nice capture.

the clouds and lighting are absolutely breathtaking
and i love the composition!

TerynYancey (Teryn Yancey) added a critique 3 months ago:

beautiful... I like how what seems to be trees lead your eyes up to the stunning clouds.

Syam added a critique 3 months ago:

Best of all three.

I love how every line in the photo leads your eye to the beautiful colors in the sky. A really nice shot.

When I first saw this, I thought there was a fire.
Amazing shot ~ Love it!

warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 2 months ago:

i think what draws me about this is that the sign letters almost look as if they are backlit [i'm assuming it's reflective lettering like a roadsign]

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:

@Amy, nope your first instinct was correct. The letters are illuminated from inside the box. This is a very cool looking sign and has been the subject of many photo's.

@Bastian, I normally don't like things cutoff near corners of my image either, but here the light falls off so hard in that corner it doesn't bother me. I was shooting with a 20mm lens and a low camera angle trying to get a strong perspective and include the telescope dome.

@Tamara, yep, lot's of fun. But for now I will lay it down for a few days. Just brought home a brand spanking new D90 body!!

Thanks all for comments!!

sanders (Marc Sanders) added a critique 2 months ago:

Nice grain and vignetting. Have fun with the D90

Ana (Ana Cortez) added a critique 2 months ago:

Love the shot, but I'm sitting here REALLY wanting to turn it to the left.
:)

pao_alfonso (Pao Alfonso) added a critique 2 months ago:

i would have stepped over to the right a bit, it seems a bit skewed. but i love the simplicity of the photo and the exposure is just right. it makes for an interesting shot.

Bonita composición donde los árboles parecieran querer enseñarnos todo el paisaje. Desde mi opinión un poco menos de luz darían mas fuerza a las montañas. Saludos

Beau BW mais pas vraiment un high key à mon avis

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

I have never shot snow, but I can only imagine how difficult it is to get the exposure so perfect that the details are visible in such an expanse of white. I like the drama of the trees in the foreground and the subtle pattern to the clouds. Well done again.

Yep, Noah, me too. There are 100's of rock cliffs like this within a 1/2 a mile of this spot, but the little tree just caught my eye. Thanks all for comments.

oz_sprog (Will Williams) added a critique 2 months ago:

Personally I'm a HUGE fan of grain, well done shooting FP4 in bright lighting.

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 2 months ago:

It's a pity that you have such massive amounts of grain when scanning film. During the process of exposing the print from negative the amount of grain is reduced a lot. So if you ever want a really good scan of an image on negative you should consider having the image printed properly and scan that photograph.

Talking about the photograph good work!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:

@Bastian: Have you ever done what you are suggesting?? Every scan I have ever seen from a print, now matter how professional and pristine the print was, looked like total crap. The grain in this image is quite pleasing to me, even when presented at this resolution on the internet. Your comment, though appreciated, is quite odd.

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

Clyde, as soon as the full size image started to appear on my screen I recognised the tight packed grain of the film. Smashing exposure and a wonderful treatment with this composition. I am guessing that you developed in DDX.
You have asked in the past how I am scanning my negs. I have the best scanner I can afford (Canon 8800f) and normally scan at 600dpi using the standard scanning software and finishing in PS Elements 5.0. I will go back to an older FP4 neg developed in DDX and see if I can get a similar finish to what you have here and post.

Architectural detail of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, CA. This was shot on FP4+ using a Nikon F100 w/ 24-85mm.

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 2 months ago:

I'm not really sure if I have any critique for this photo, I like the curvature of the stairs and building. I like your framing as well! The most interesting thing for me is how we have no idea what this building is, until you look at the sign. Very unique photo!

breaves (Brennan Greaves) added a critique 2 months ago:

I love the repeating curves, perhaps a little more range of values, great photo

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

Low light and a building like this makes for a very difficult to control situation. Your result is fabulous and the composition and framing sets it off beautifully.

Yes, Noah, food stains.

boyd added a critique 3 months ago:

I like the composition that you have chosen here with the eyes smack bang in the middle of the frame. It works very effectively even with all the other colours and lines going on around her. Well done and seen.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 2 months ago:

Clyde,

Nice shot - there's a human being in your photograph! Question: how did you determine how to straighten this thing - you, obviously had several options...

Best,
Jon

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:

@jon, I don't remember fussing with the angle, that is right out of the camera. I cropped a little off the top trying to focus attention a little. This was shot at high iso and the D70s is not know for being very good at that, so I passed it through Noise Ninja and a little curves, that's it.

Neuner added a critique 2 months ago:

I like it however I would have liked to see more of the wall that she is peeking over. It would have given more of 'Peek'.

This was taken earlier today at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, CA. The Astronomers Monument was completed in 1934 and designed by Archibald Garner.

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 2 months ago:

I like the contrast in this image with the light monument and the dark sky (did you use a polarizer?). I really appreciate the dark blue. The composition is great too - I'd say you made the best out it!
Good job.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:

@Bastian, I gave up carrying a polarizer when I shoot, too many new lenses. I applied a little polarization filter in PS, I use Nik Software's Color Efx Pro.

breaves (Brennan Greaves) added a critique 2 months ago:

great depth, that blue is quite amazing

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

I really appreciated the perfect blue here, Clyde. I think that the strenght in this shot comes from two things, good composition and spot on exposure to capture the light perfectly. The subtlety of detail you have in this image is beautiful. Well done again.

I'm pretty sure this image is straight, it may not feel like it and I understand that may be more important. The spirit levels on my tripod head were level and straight. The houses have straight verticals and the bit of brighter beach that you can see near the left edge of the shot is straight. I will check the hi-res again tonight. Thanks all for the comments.
