@Tammy, sorta is, it's only 2 exposures. I was shooting hand held with a 3 exposure bracket program, the third exposure was really shaky and blurred. I use Photomatix Pro for HDR generation and tone mapping, just got it a couple of weeks ago. It works to my taste @50% of the time. They brag that you can use it with hand held stuff. In reality, just barely. If you only have lateral and/or vertical shifts between the exposures it works well, but if you have tilt more than a tiny bit, it won't work. Best to use a tripod and no wind or object/people movement. Also, the tone mapping takes a lot of trial and error to learn. I only like it when the "HDR" look is subtle. Definitely fun to play with!!

lightholder (Kimberly Lightholder) added a critique 1 year ago:

That... is... gorgeous! :)

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

Beamer, I think you and I have the same preference when working with HDR. I really like the subtle use here. I wouldn't have thought you used that technique for this image which shows you did a great job.

For some reason, the tree in the center darkened by the clouds is distracting and I'm wishing you highlighted the sun lit tree on the left more but then you might not have been able to capture the rocks in the lower right that I really like. I'm a little torn about the composition.

I'd like to see this posted under the new topic of 'weather'. So many elements happening here making this very interesting & appealing. Excellent photo or should I say photos? :)

Eye_See added a critique 1 year ago:

Very nice composition and color.

Really enjoy this photo. It is very crisp and refreshing to me.

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the 3D quality of this pic. It feels like the stems(?) are coming out at me.

marcouet52 (Mario Arcouette) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is very 3d as mention by Neuner,
this is the look i like most,A little bit noisy
just wonder if appling noise reduction would ruin it or it would keep it beauty.
Superb

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

What noise? I think you say that about every picture. Sure your monitor is set up right?

Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:

So clear, awesome color.

Long time no see Beamer. I love the photo, the girafe was nice to you.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

Yes, she is a sweetie, ate leaves right out of our hands. She is nearly 18 feet tall. We were on the back of a photo safari truck.

Thanks everyone for the comments!!

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) added a critique 1 year ago:

Beautiful! The blue sky is beautiful and great timing with the giraffe! That angle really works!

Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:

Love the angle and the bright blue sky. Nice.

I shot this for the current Theme on WeeklyShot, called Color Thread. The idea that a color, here red, runs through your composition. This is Venice Beach, CA on a beautiful, warm November day, 1000's of people... Thanks again, for your time to comment.

koo88 added a critique 1 year ago:

Love Venice Beach. I really like how the tatoo sign is the focal point. Vivid colors make the photo pop. Kudos once again.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

For me it's a little busy although the main focal point does definitely draw the eye. I do love that red color.

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love the color. I agree that it is busy but i don't think that it takes away. The poeple in the shot may though...
All in all, I'm a fan of this one.

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a nice exposure. The color seems a bit amped to me... rather unnatural. The guy on the left is a major distraction.

I finally got around to re-working this shot based on you earlier comments. The previous post was: www.vazaar.com/topic:trees/photos/id:15177/

What do you guys think now??

koo88 added a critique 1 year ago:

Comparing both it is more crisp. The shadows are darker. Great colors. When you say that you reworked it, does that mean on Adobe PS? I just got it so I want to see what could be accomplished to my photos.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

Yes, I use Photoshop, but re-working just means a different use of curves and saturation and a different crop. No editing or compositing done.

warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 1 year ago:

i like the changes

I agree with the other comment if Augusto is saying something along the lines of "Great shot that perfectly frames the moon. Interesting sky and neat control of exposure. Well seen, captured and presented."

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) added a critique 1 year ago:

Another great one, Beamer! I can't do shots like these!! Please give me some tips! My moon and stars keep turning out like fire balls!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

This is actually a poor man's HDR, I shot one exposure for the ring and clouds and one for the moon. A little circle matte and presto!!

Similar approach here:
blog.clydebeamer.com/?p=28

Almost impossible to get the "earth shine" any other way.

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) added a critique 1 year ago:

That's awesome! I never would've guessed!

This is another nice one. I don't know which of the two I like better...I like the red in the cabin. It gives you a little more to study in this photo but I like how you framed the water in the other. Both are wonderful!

Pipet added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a lovely shot... although the background is out of focus, the bird confuses a little bit with the background (on top of the image). It would've been better if you could've separated them more (they are both the same color and it dosn't help) ... but hey, I know: this is wildlife! you can't ask that much!...

Very cool shot.
I like the composition and the colors!

well it looks nice, the dof is mostly ok, but the top is too blurry. the colors are very good.

Pixim (Eric) added a critique 1 year ago:

Beautiful photograph, that does not astonish me by you that this one is straight from cam.
Could you light me, for this topic, we must present a JPG left straight of the apparatus, or can one present a RAW to develop with the neutral values of the software. Thank you for your assistance and greetings.

AnaGaztelu (Ana Gaztelu) added a critique 1 year ago:

Bonita fotografía, los tonos del color son estupendos, me habría gustado ver mas de ella. Podría encajar perfectamente en otros "topics".
Saludos

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

I only shoot Raw, so for me it means a baseline convert in PS CS2 Camera Raw and a little cropping, which is exactly what this one is.

Wow!! That is just beautiful!!! I wish the plants didn't look so much like shadows in the bottom left but I understand there's not much you can do about that. This so pretty. It's like I'm there! Great job!!

klear added a critique 1 year ago:

Wow - incredible light. You may not need as much on the right since it is much less interesting than the center to left portion - but I just really like this.

TheAntipodes (Menno van Zaanen) added a critique 1 year ago:

I actually like the balance of light and dark in the left and right part of the picture. Very nice.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) added a critique 1 year ago:

is this the gradn canion? well the lights are very good but i think the horizoon is not horizontal, there is also a bit noise in the the shadows, but the pic looks still great

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

Yes, this is a view from Mather Point at the Grand Canyon, AZ. I double checked the horizon, and it is very straight, I even did a lens distortion correction on this. The way I check this is to scroll our browser up to where you can use the bottom of the toolbar as a guide to check horizontal straightness. Glad you like the pic. This light is about 30 minutes after sunrise. If you ever get the chance this is one of those "don't miss" places in the USA, IMHO.
