Very nice shot.
The most interesting part to me is the blue and red light reflection across almost the middle of the frame.

erinelizzybeth (Erin) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love this picture! I agree with mikeock about the red and blue lights. The only thing I would say bad about the pic is it looks a bit grainy but overall I love the picture!

snaps (Dana N) added a critique 1 year ago:

A very dramatic night shot. I agree with above, that it's a bit grainy, but not sure if takes away that much from the shot itself.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great shot, nicely processed. I am, however, really distracted by the bright branches at the bottom. I would strongly suggest painting them out or cropping above them.

BWiseman (Brandon Wiseman) added a critique 1 month ago:

I love the colour reflections in the water. It would have been really nice to get the moons reflection in the water but not in the sky

Another nice tonal range in this one. Good skin texture also. Perhaps if you turned the body a bit more towards the camera you could have picked up a bit more depth from the curves of the back and the buttocks. I still would've cropped from the top again, but that is subjective at best. I like how the highlights gradually dissolve to black. I think a few white reflectors could enhance the drop off more. Keep up the good work.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I too think the composition is a bit too tall at the top. I also wish the image was a bit sharper overall. I agree with Smooch, nice tonal range.

pao_alfonso (Pao Alfonso) added a critique 1 year ago:

very nicely done. i love the contour, teh lighting. agree with beamer on the sharpness, though.

davidbl (David Bjørnsten-Lindhard) added a critique 1 year ago:

Lovely picture, it's a well known composition. If you ask me i think your missing the perfect curve, it breaks when you reach somewhat up the back. The other end is just perfect, curves are smooth.

I would also like to see some more "spine" in the picture. This is also a very strong signal so send i believe.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

Nice one :-)
I feel that the contrast on her back (along the spine) is too weak: I would either turn the body so that more of the spine is visible (and with stronger contrast), or turn it a bit on the other side so it's not visible at all.

If the RAW-file permits, it would be nice with another crop, which IMO could give more balance to the composition. I would crop away 1/3 to the left ad add 1/3 to the right. Is that possible?

Lars :-)

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with Lars about the compo. I really like the graphic feel that your treatment and saturation have created here. Nice job with that.

bradford (Bradford Levine) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice abstract - great saturated colors

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

I agree with the above about the crop. The lines are converging right on the border of the image, it might be better if that point were a bit more in the frame.

I love it! Maybe you could crop some but just a little. in order to make it more exciting for me:)

JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 1 year ago:

Absolutely beautiful light. (But I'll agree with the others. Crop about 10 or 15 pixels off the right side. But that's just nitpicking.)

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 1 year ago:

this is very mystical in some way i cant even explain...but its so alluring...
awesome shot!!

ErikUnger (Erik Unger) added a critique 1 year ago:

The light is absolutely amazing. As others have said, crop out that tiny part of tree on the right and its perfect.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

Is it a real photo? :-)
I love it.

Pinto Mountain in Joshua Tree NP. This is located in the lower, eastern half of the park. This is pano from 6 shots of FP4+ film.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

Maybe it's just an impression of mine, but I feel like the photo is slightly tilted clockwise.
The right side of the photo has very little contrast (I understand that this is probably due to the sun's position), maybe some more would help (while still keeping it "weaker" than the left side).

I like the composition a lot. I like the shallow depth of field too. I feel this photo screams out for color though. I'm curious as to why you didn't shoot this in color? It could be my monitor, but the tones seem a bit muddy.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Hi, Tamara, I don't mind the b&w choice, but I agree with Smooch about the tonal range.

sfkp (Tamara) said 1 year ago:

Hi, thank you both for your comments. Originally I shot this in color (like all my photo's) but I thought it may look more powerfull in b&w. Just experimenting.
About the tonal range: I think it's always hard to choose between a lot of contrast but loose some details that way or less contrast and let the details visible.

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 1 year ago:

the composition and the details of the flowers and the butterflies are great! and i do agree that the b&w really does make it more dramatic. its also kind of unexpected..which makes it just that more interesting.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

I love how the upper batterfly's colours match with the background.
I'm only a bit disturbed by the two dark spots on the big leaf in the background, for some reason they are also drawing my attention.

Very graphic and nice. I really like it. Don't really know what to say to improve.

sanders (Marc Sanders) added a critique 1 year ago:

Maybe even wider and shot further down from the ground and more diagnaly letting the lines speak rather than recognizing it right away as a building.

mizztech (Maria Little) added a critique 11 months ago:

great compo but I miss a little contrast

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

I agree with Sanders, I would also move a bit closer or maybe to the left. But I like it like this too.

Sweet, only imo the blue-ish water is shouting for my attention, that's really pity. Maybe you can reduce the blue color by pp. A b&w treatment will maybe also help.
To make the animals the main subject of the scene, I suggest some cropping from all sites, too. You certainly have to get rit off that strange thing in the lower left corner.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

This would have been much better if you could have gotten the ducks away from the reflection and just in the blue water. They would pop much better that way.

Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:

The composition doesn't contribute to this image. It's too boring, cropping the photograph in order to fit the rules of thirds should make an improvement.

JaviNavarro (Javier Navarro) added a critique 1 year ago:

I would like it more if ducks were not in the center, nor in the reflection as others have commented before.

The ground we can see is a little bit distracting too. I would have cut it or give it more space to play with the rest of elements. Now it is in the picture but says nothing.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

The JPEG compression is rather strong here, I don't know if you did it of if it's the site's fault.
I would try to crop the picture to keep only the left blue area and the central one, and cut also the ground below (so the frame would be a square). Just a try :-)

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Feels a little tilted. And a little flat in the tonal range.

ErikUnger (Erik Unger) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great shot, but Beamer is right. It feels just a tad bit slanted. It would also benefit from an increase in tonal range. Has some real potential.

Reinante added a critique 1 year ago:

ME PARECE MUY BUENA

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the point of view, but maybe this is one of those photo's wich aren't pretty in B&W. For succesful B&W photo's you need a large tonal range with many contrasts and like Beamer said, this one hasn't. The sky looks a bit overexposed, but it's hard to say if it's not in color. Did you shoot this one in color? I would love to see the orgional if you did.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

I agree with all of the above. The tilt detracts a lot from the image, I almost cannot concentrate on anything else. :-)
The picture has some mood, but some more contrast could help. And I would also like to see the original colours, just for comparison.

i loved the "time" of this picture :)

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this, very well chosen for this Topic. I would suggest to crop the top about 15% to balance the compo a little better.

mardy added a critique 5 months ago:

The photo has a very artistic look, that I find it hard to criticize. :-)
I'm a bit bothered by the total white on the bottom-right corner, but overall I like it.
