This is a beautiful photograph.
The extremely muted colors add to the effect.
Are the light beams digitally created or enhanced? because they are perfect.

Nice job. I agree, a little eerie, but cool just the same.

Overall I really like this image. The human form is a strong element in any image, and in this one I find my eye is drawn to the escalator where the people are and doesn't want to leave. I have to force myself to look at the other half of the image, and then I question why it is there. The stairs do not seem to add anything to the overall image and are more of a distraction for me. I think I would have been inclined to crop them out.
Looking at the main part of the image, the lighting is really terrific and helps give the image a kind of gritty, graphical quality that I really enjoy. I like the range of tones and the colours, especially in the metal railings. Good choice for the theme too.

I like the exposure very much. The man appears to be framed by the hood above. Great composition.
I would like to see a 4x5 crop version (landscape of course).

Very nice picture.
I really like the muted colors all around other than the human element.
Lighting is wonderful!

This one really stands out for me too. Photos that so accurately depict the suffering of homelessness get me every time.

Interesting photo. I like the colors and processing. The man is a bit small, though, and seems to get lost in the image (not that you could do anything about that).
jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:
I like this because it is about time and space. I think that you have used the space well - the poster is a humorous touch, in my opinion. Time and space are greater than man - so this man is small - at least, that is the way in which I view this photo. Nice work.
Best,
Jon

That's a good compo. I share jvgphoto's interpretation. The humankind is small compared to time and space.

I bet this would look awesome in b&w as well. Very dramatic image with an incredible sky.
odon (Odon Dias) added a critique 1 year ago:
Nice blue sky, the soft red tones all around are also cool. I think that this picture fits in the backlighting, too.
aepoc (Jason Kessenich) added a critique 1 year ago:
To me, this image is really powerful. It shows how "uphill" the battle of everyday life can be, and how the person has to be prepared for it. Every morning is a new day. You're able to start over, if you so choose. This is a wonderful photo.

I have to agree with Sylvain. It all works together nicely. Even the pose of the individual adds to the feel. Great shot.

I also have to agree with Sylvain - love the black and white treatment, think the photo is excellent. I wouldnt change anything!
23pixels (Rowell) added a critique 1 year ago:
This surely has a set tone. It looks like something out of a movie. The lighting is wonderful and the black and white makes it a strong finish.
odon (Odon Dias) added a critique 1 year ago:
This is REALLY a great perspective. The angle used is excellent to enhance the effect, and very dramatic. The dark areas are very well balanced and helps the picture a lot.

I love the light on the wall, the texture, and how nicely the Chaplin poster compliments the scene. The sink and cracked walls look as though they are right out of "The Tramp." I normally would not like how the white stripe goes right down the middle, but in this picture I think that it makes a nice side-by-side.
Pi-Production (Eric Rousset) added a critique 1 year ago:
Great composition Antoine, I like the attitude of Chaplin he's look like he's waiting somebody....
Nicely done !!
bokeh-junior (Ed Simons) added a critique 1 year ago:
I really like the way there a two sides to this picture. Chaplin's tramp adds to the sense of dereliction.
kamaki (Christophe) added a critique 1 year ago:
Chaplin seems to be frozen. The ambiance of the room is quite warm... For this contrast, I like this picture

kadenajack, you made the same comment in an older photo. i understand your point of view but you should read what Sher said : "In my dictionary, the definition of solitude is "the state of being alone, separated from other people, whether considered as a welcome freedom from disturbance or as an unhappy loneliness.""
AntoineB (Antoine BARBOT) said 1 year ago:
i tried to remove the pipes at the top, i didn't like it whitout them, but thanks for your suggestion.
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
Antoine, I like it just the way it is. Including your representation of Solitude, which can be interpreted in so many ways.... Instead of worrying about semantics, I have to say your interest in the subject and the framing/presentation is fantastic. How solitary this person is was so well presented with your tucking him into the left corner of the dark empty room (it seems like such a small room - but so large at the same time because of how small he seems and the dark colors). The pic speaks novels to me obviously and is a favorite. Thanks for sharing it.

I love the surreal effect of the exaggerated saturation, and you did a great job of drawing the viewers eye directly to the subject while maintaining a sense of place.
