I have added this as a favoraite - the light is spectacular - the bottom should be cropped - it adds nothing positive in my opinion.

Cheers,
Jon

boyd added a critique 5 months ago:

I agree that the bottom could be cropped. Beamer's suggestion of a square format for this subject would probably give a stonger image. Well done.

GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) said 5 months ago:

Thanks for your comments. I posted a cropped version here: comfortabledog.com/index.php?showimage=6

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 5 months ago:

See now that's much nicer!! BTW, don't you wish this site had a more neutral background. Your posted square version pops so much nicer on your site. To me that's the worst part of Vazaar.

Hey Brandon, how you doin' mate...?

HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:

Wonderful play of light and form. Yes cropping the bottom to obtain a square format would be better IMO.

Overall, I like this photograph a lot.

Perhaps, some negative space above the sun would not hurt the impact; also a small diagonal line in the lower left corner distracts a little bit.

JBridges (Jim Bridges) said 5 months ago:

Fedor: Thanks for the comment. I hadn't even noticed the diagonal line in the right corner, but now that you point it out, I can't miss it.

Me gusta, yo habría evitado las siluetas de los árboles y habría cortado un poquito por arriba. Me encanta el pelo brillante con la luz.
Saludos.

I wonder if the one on your blog is better liked because of the dark background colors of you site vs. the white background here. I am not so sure the color depth is that much different, but the colors against the dark background do pop a bit more. Great shot never less.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 6 months ago:

@0Jim: It's both. I regularly do 2 conversion one for Vazaar and one for my blog and OnExposure both which have gray or black backgrounds. But, this one is really a case where I did a whole different approach to the one on my blog, including a vignette and some film grain added.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

Ana (Ana Cortez) added a critique 6 months ago:

I didn't see much difference, either, aside from a bit of shadowing in the top/right corner.

It's a great shot. Would maybe like more 'ground' if it were possible, to give a more 'empty' feel.

Bowden added a critique 6 months ago:

Love the shot but I would like to see you crop out from the bottom of the blue graffiti down. The reason is that it adds a surreal feeling to it (like Eschers stairs) where you don't know if the left side is reall the horizon or the right.

mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 5 months ago:

I have such a fascination with graffiti. I think this is an art all on it's own. You've captured this well, as usual. Love the colors and grittiness (is that a word) of the photo. True Urban Art...

AnaGaztelu (Ana Gaztelu) added a critique 5 months ago:

La idea de lo bello para cada persona es obviamente distinta y así debe ser. Las plantas están vivas, por supuesto, pero su propia estética no es para mí bella, por éso opiné que me resultaban "tristes" al no infundirme un sentimiento agradable en su comtemplación. No sé si me explico.

soreks (Fedor Soreks) added a critique 5 months ago:

Great colors in the background; to me, the flowers in the pot do not add much to the image and just distract because the background is much more beautiful and engaging.

HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:

Nah, Soreks heeft het niet begrepen :)

sfkp (Tamara) said 5 months ago:

Niet echt, nee. :P Ach, ieder zijn mening hoor. Ik ben nu vooral veel met scherpte-diepte aan het experimenteren.

GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 5 months ago:

I looked at this photo a few days ago and couldn't figure out what to say, but I think I agree with soreks. The potted flowers don't add much to the shot (but it looks like they are blocking out an ugly car or two). It sounds like they are your plants so you probably live there and can keep working on this shot. I suggest trying to take advantage of reflections in the window and on the wall by taking down the potted plants and moving the camera forward a bit.

wery nice work.
At least, i think it could be better by dopping colors a bit, a cropping (half picture?) on the flower and the bee.

AnaGaztelu (Ana Gaztelu) added a critique 9 months ago:

Fantástica

GarrettHall (Garrett Hall) added a critique 5 months ago:

Really interesting photo. As far as criticism goes, I would try to make the flower stick out a little more. My eye wants to go to the bud rather than the flower/bee. Also, the flower petals don't have much depth.
