The sand lines is the most beautiful part of it and a half of them is in shadow. The hills in the background distract to an extent. Skies, bird, and sands would be well enough. I liked the processing: color and grain, texture.
HuubL added a critique 5 months ago:
The light on the sand waves is beautiful. The lonely gull adds a deserted feeling. Wonderful conversion!

This is great photo. I like B&W, tone and contrast. Bird is very cool my friend! Great image, well done!

Lovely image. I understand this is the new conversion with Silver Fx pro. It has much more contrast and grain. If this is how you wanted then it is OK. Personally, I prefer the other conversion which is smoother and has a wider tonal range. But either way a very nice image!

Very serene feeling here. I think the whole thing about always having something in the foreground of landscapes is way overrated. This has a great feel, very nice exposure, great colors.
If you want a suggestion to possibly make it better, try cropping off about 10-15% of the top, just above the darker clouds. Might give a bit more expansive feel.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions - much appreciated as always!
Best to all,

I agree with misu here. Something is missing. Some focal point. Great colors and scene, but it all lacks that certain punch. Also, beamer may be onto something with the crop suggestion. Although I would be careful not to put the horizon in the center of the frame. That might be a bigger mistake.

Wow. Spectacular shot, and thanks all for the great tutorial. I have yet to play with HDR, but this prompts me further to go explore it.
ScottCrouse (Scott Crouse) said 7 months ago:
Thanks Craig! If you get stuck feel free to e-mail any questions my way. Lots of good links out there on how to do this properly.

Very pretty but a little too dark for me
HuubL said 6 months ago:
Beautiful seascape/sunset shot. HDR seems very popular lately and therefore, for me it quickly looses its appeal. However, landscapes like this really gain from a modest use of the technique.

Nice capture(s)!! It tells a little story. The red scarf, finger and toe nails are giving a nice contrast.

Bonita idea, bonita foto, bonita historia. Felicidades

Saludos
smucha (shannon mucha) said 8 months ago:
The repetition is in the fibonacci number sequence found in the pine cone. The number of scales on the cone are repetitious.
Thanks for the comment.
lightningPaul (Paul) added a critique 3 months ago:
Your idea about repetition is pretty good. But the image does not show that at all.
When looking at the picture I see a blurred hand holding a little pine cone with a green background. No clear indication of repetition. The cone (= your main subject) is only filling a few percent of the image.
A real close up of the pine cone was perhaps much better.

I love how this is offset just a bit. It's almost uncomfortable, but in a good way. Leaves a lot to the imagination. :)

I really like the graphic feel of this Jon. Your framing/cropping is spot on!! Good choice with the B&W, or is this naturally B&W??

Saludos.
soreks (Fedor Soreks) added a critique 5 months ago:
It looked very good in thumbnail; nicely composed and coloured. That said, once opened, the cables dominate the scene and distract.
boyd added a critique 5 months ago:
I agree with soreks that the thumbnail looked very good, but the full frame didn't quite deliver as expected (expectations do tend to spoil everything :0) ... I think that the composition is essentially sound, I just would have liked the deep shadow on the left to reveal a bit more detail and the highlight at the back to be toned down a touch. Very difficult lighting handled quite masterfully overall. Good stuff.
op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 5 months ago:
avec tous ces câbles, je trouve que l'on se perd dans ton image. Cela brouille trop la rue
mrraggedyandy added a critique 4 months ago:
it's tough for me to be objective since I ride the bus line that uses those very cables on Kearny Street, but I like it. I've always felt like those cables ruin 95% of the "city" shots in SF, but here you've used them as an effect, and it works. It looks and feels chaotic.
Saludos
