Using Photoshop... I converted it to black and white. Then I took the curves and just dragged the center down to the lower-right. Viola!
You can also use some masking techniques to reduce the aggressiveness of the effect in certain spots.

That's awesome. The picture actually started out in b&w. I added the red overlay to it. I guess I shoulda curves'd it up a bit. :p Thank you though. I think it looks amazing your way! :)

I really like what you've captured here... And I think this could be potentially much scarier if it was darker. I know you didn't ask for a critique, but I just couldn't help sharing an alternate point-of-view. Just some thoughts!
