Haha... clean nails would be less interesting in my opinion. I actually think this is a very strong photo... Great focus, interesting composition... I enjoy the bokeh in the background and how the light hits the tree. Even though the tree is over exposed it's not blown out and it works well here.

I'm not sure that I can find much to change here. Nicely done.

I agree the nails show part of the "whole" picture of him...He's all boy who was perhaps playing hard in the mud as little boys love to do. I think this is a good one that captures a reality.

I like how dark his eyes are in the photo. I too agree that the nails tell a story. Great shot!

Much stronger image with the hand there than not (dirty nails or no); nice image!

I also like the crop. the only thing bothering me are those hairs on his forehead. I'd say clone them out.

The unclean nails are an important element of the composition of the photo, in my opinion :) They capture the look of who's watching the photo and add an 'iornic' element on this
