I'm sure I just saw this fella in another photo! His suit is glowing, Sher. A little more contrast here imho.

You shoulda been there in person..it was blinding in the sunshine! I'm not so good with contrast yet obviously. I tweak and fix and then change back and then re-alter and then start over and I'm never satisfied. I need training.

I think just the opposite. I think the contrast is just right. If you go more, it will blow out his white suit. The tones are very nice:)

Lamdennison (Leigh-Anne Dennison) added a critique 1 year ago:

The face and expression are spot on for a nice portrait, offering a glimpse at his character.

I will preface this by saying that I often suffer the same problems with framing that I always notice as a photo editor and often miss as a photographer while shooting. It is a shame you didn't capture the hand gesture in frame. It seems from what can be seen of it that it helps epitomize the person for your portrait. Also, a little more attention to the reflection would have alerted you to the slice of a lovely girl's profile peaking in. It isn't posed or captured enough to look intentional. Too tight to crop but maybe you could clone it out for a final photo.

Rather than adjusting "contrast" - I'd suggest a tweak in the Shadow/Highlight Adjustments of Photoshop - not touching the shadows but pulling down the highlights a little (10-15%). I tried it and it gives some details without blowing out the suit.

Thank you Jo.

Leigh-Anne - I really appreciate your detailed comment. I agree about the hands, I debated cropping out what I did capture but eventually decided they added a bit more character and left them in. Strangely enough, I didn't even notice the girls face until you mentioned it. I will clone that out. I will also try your suggestion for tweaking. I am still learning and your detailed constructive criticism is very much appreciated. Thank you!
