Impressive! That you were able to freeze the motion of the water, and have the head in such sharp focus, but blur the wings is very cool. I don't think this is a good candidate for long exposure - though I guess that's open to debate about what exactly qualifies as a long exposure.

I submitted this image expecting that not everyone would agree that it fits the theme. To me, "long" in "long exposure" has to be considered relative to the subject matter and conditions. For example an 1/8 second exposure macro shot of a flower may be tack sharp and not give the feeling of a long exposure at all if the image is made on a calm morning, but would seem very long indeed if the capture were made in windy conditions. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Technical info: 1/160 sec semi hand-held (on tripod with a Sidekick, nothing tightened down) with effectively 780 mm lens (300 mm lens w/ 2.0 teleconverter and 1.3 magnification factor digital sensor). This is a fairly long exposure for the focal length regardless of subject movement...

Gorgeous spot at a perfect moment... nice. A very minor notice as I stared at it critically for a second is the big stream of water on the bottom drop and the left side is a bit brownish? I would personally brighten the water juuuuuust a tad..give it that glow. :)

Thanks for the constructive input. I corrected the color to make the brightest areas of the water neutral and let the rest fall where it may. I think the water was picking up the warm color of the surrounding rocks.

This is a gorgeous shot, I've tried to do this so many times with no luck. Nice job!!

I really like this shot too Bob. Getting the motion from the water is easier said than done I've found. Did you use a neautral density filter or was the light low enough to get the motion without filters?
uncommondepth (Roberta Murray) said 1 year ago:
Oops = neutral, I mean.

No filter Roberta. Dark forest in a deeply entrenched gorge, in the morning before the sun rose high enough to shine down into the stream

Really nice Ana. I like the haze over the downtown highrises, and the approaching blanket of darkness from the left side!

Fantastic. I just like everything about it... the colors... the darkness... the composition. It just feels very Zen-like to me. Simple.
BodhiBlink (Tom Bodhi Reeves) said 1 year ago:
Ohhhh I agree...feels like one that I should have seen and shot, in the most respectful sort of way. =) Now what could I find to critique? There's a little glowie halo around the tree branches on the bottom left... got ya! =) unless you like it, I'd do a little selectively masked, duplicate of the background layer in multiply-mode. But like I said, I'm envious and awed. Nice one.

I love it...wonderful colors and the silkiness of the water is beautiful.

Thanks for the comments.
@ Tom - I would like to talk more about your comments because I'm not getting what you mean. I don't really see the halo, but I think it might be because it belongs or is part of the original. ?? Email me.
this is gorgeous.
