I have added this as a favoraite - the light is spectacular - the bottom should be cropped - it adds nothing positive in my opinion.
Cheers,
Jon

I agree that the bottom could be cropped. Beamer's suggestion of a square format for this subject would probably give a stonger image. Well done.

Thanks for your comments. I posted a cropped version here: comfortabledog.com/index.php?showimage=6

See now that's much nicer!! BTW, don't you wish this site had a more neutral background. Your posted square version pops so much nicer on your site. To me that's the worst part of Vazaar.
Hey Brandon, how you doin' mate...?

Wonderful play of light and form. Yes cropping the bottom to obtain a square format would be better IMO.

This was a great moment to capture but the bumblebee is not that sharp and the blurry flower in the left bottom corner is distracting. Also, the light looks flat. I've found recently that shooting at ISO 400 in bright sunlight gives good DOF and very short shutter time (1/250-1/500) which would help. This looks like an overcast day: not enough light.
HuubL added a critique 1 month ago:
I agree with Soreks. It's a nice natural composition, which could have been better with the OOF blue flower out of the background. Nevertheless, with a wing beat frequency of around 150/sec, I think the bumblebee's wings would be difficult to get really sharp.

I like this image a lot. NIce color and contrast and the bee is well-positioned. Not an easy thing to do because they move so fast. well done.

I don't know what it is but I am really enjoying this picture. I am getting an Elephant/ dog feel of the green on the right. I would love to see this wil a bit more of the red color coming through (i.e. a photoshopped version).
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 2 months ago:
Thanks, Bowden, I actually had this more saturated at one point but felt it looked fake. It's the same impression you get when you look at these little guys at the plant store, they look painted or fake. This was an interesting approach to the color treatment that I had read about but never tried. I first developed this as a fairly high contrast B&W and then using the original color layer and the "Color" transfer mode I put the chroma back on top. It gives this nice grainy/high contrast look. I kinda like it. You basically control the saturation by the opacity of that "Color" layer.

I like this a lot. Have you considered cropping just maybe 10-15 pixels at the top? I am not sure about it but I have a feeling it'll have better balance overall without the top 10 pixels. Great image regardless!
