there is obviously a story to accompany the structure. The sky is blown out a bit too much to let the blue show up well in the upper right corner - but it is there and could add if brought out a bit

Nice find and excellent atmosphere.

i really like subtle color. sometimes people will tend to oversaturate an image like this, but it think for the subject and overall atmosphere the saturation is spot on. well done.

The blown highlights in the center window are disappointing. This might have been a good place for bracketing and a little poor man's HDR using layer masks. This is a fairly common take on a very common motif.
mooch added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this but I think maybe a bit of post processing could have even this out and made it a cracking shot. Good subject and nice framing.

actually it's an HDR image

It looks like there is a lot of interesting graffiti in this building. I'd like to see more of that. Looks like a nice location to revisit. Fits the topic well.
mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:
This shot has a lot of potential.
Maybe revisit when it is overcast to reduce the blowouts?
I like the lighting in the rear as it is a beam showing across the graffiti.
Maybe if you could achieve that effect with the other open areas?
Great concept and would love to see more.

Looks like the south side of Jumbo Rocks. The quartz monzonite had bearing veins of quartz but the pickings were scarce.
I know it's all in the time of day, but I'd love to explore the angles and curves of the place since the metal contrasts with the rock so well.

@John, this is just a bit north of Barker Dam about a mile hike from that parking lot. I didn't have much time to stay, we decided to walk out there on the spur of the moment and it was looking a lot like rain, so we didn't tarry... I plan on going back again with better light and more time.

Sheer pleasure seeing this shot. Great BW tones. Nice composition.
gold-coast (Rod L'Huillier) added a critique 1 year ago:
Looks like an intriguing place. Nicely composed shot, and the only thing I would add is that the horizon seems a little high on the right and maybe crop it in a bit on the left, thats being fussy though...Great work.

Abandoned mine, isn't it?
I think you a bit overcontrsat this photo. Lights are to light and shadows are to dark. But nice place for great photos and this once as sugject, composition and so on very great!

Blown out highlights is a problem I have had on many occasions. Are there any tips you could suggest to help fix, or lessen it?
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:
@Brennan: That really depends on what type of camera you shoot with. If you shoot with a dslr that supports raw files, then shoot raw and you have a lot of control over the conversion, you can even make multiple conversions and blend them in post. If not, then see if your camera has a "backlighting" mode, sometimes that will help.
Bastian (Bastian Löhrer) added a critique 1 year ago:
Consult some pages about HDRI photography - that's what you're looking for!
Good composition though. I think you should have moved the chair more to the left so you hadn't cut it off.
sanders (Marc Sanders) added a critique 1 year ago:
Also a cross processed look may have done the trick here. As far as HDR I would say that the window is such a small part of the overall effect that it does not need to be properly exposed unless somthing outside was so great it adds to the image like a local sign or indication like the HOLLYWOOD sign.

This definitely has that abandonment feeling
great find!

Puzzling view but interesting capture., Good eye Juan. Was this a window or large structure with many openings like this? I like the view of the other end.
Mysterious.

Muchas gracias por su comentario jrivera, efectivamente esto era una ventana de un viejo caserio abandonado en el campo. Saludos
