The Story:

Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, one of the greatest spiritual masters and poetic geniuses of the 13th century was the founder of the Mevlevi Sufi order: the symbol of love, peace, brotherhood and tolerance. This is a shot of the Sema (Whirling Ceremony) performed by the Sufi Group of the Istanbul Galata Mevlevi Lodge. The Semazens (Whirling Dervish) remove their black cloaks and begin turning as the chanters behind sing hymns in praise of Prophet Mohammed. This particular Whirling Dervish performance was part of the Rumi 2007 (800th anniversary of Rumi's birth) at the event hall of the Istanbul Sirkeci train station, the terminal stop for the Orient Express that originates from Paris.

Good lighting nicely spotting the dancers in the centre of the frame. This shot is wonderfully rollicking and tells a great story, and would also fit very well within "Embrace the blur". There is much to like about this shot, well done.

Very interesting shot - good comp. - certainly holds the attention - I could wish for just a little more light overall.
Thanks for sharing!

Best,
Jon

Nice job in a difficult situation. I like the motion blur approach. Very pretty!!

I love this shot, the blur and the warm color of the light really draws my attention and makes me feel like time is standing still for the dancer in the middle, while the world moves all around him. It is hard to give any critique, but the arch in the background gives away that the camera was not fully level. I am not sure anythign can be done because the dancer might look like he is going to fall over if it was rotated at all. Just a thought.

Definitely an interesting photo - well shot given the conditions. Can almost feel the movement.

A unique shot for sure captures you attention to the white right away, Maybe a little brighter would bring more out in the background :)
