Was this shot taken before they were beamed up, or after the aliens returned them back to earth? :)

Awesome picture!

kokii (Dana K) added a critique 1 year ago:

Looks like I'm the first one to disagree with the need of cropping. In my point of view it's a well balanced picture and the pavement in front gives it certain depth. If there was more space above her there would be too many distracting detail and the main message of the picture would get lost.

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

I guess I'm in the don't crop camp too. The pavement does imply depth and gives the feel that I am there.

The woman's face is may not be sharp. But sharpness can be over rated. Capturing her expression gives this photo much more meaning than waiting for AF or manual focusing. Spontaneous photography does not have to be technically perfect to be good. This is better thab good.

jaapv added a critique 1 year ago:

I would not crop either, but I think colour adds nothing. I is crying out for B&W, and some grain.

aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love this image, but agree that it is not quite sharp enough, especially in the area of her face (it looks to me that the camera focused on the bike and left her slightly out of focus). I'd keep the crop as is - even though often times the crop goes in the direction of her line of sight. Here, though, with the short crop on top there is a sense of tension or interest because we can't see what is holding her gaze. Well done. I should be so lucky to find a subject like this and do half as well with her.

Wow, this is a beautiful black & white scene. I love the posture of the man : I can feel the precision of his gesture and his will to look perfect.
Great work !

I should add - was shot for stock along with about 300 others and only 3 were accepted...

I spend so much time on this site. I love this site and I love the comments and feedback here! I try to remember everything when I go shoot. I'm just frustrated with this whole stock photography thing...I'm wondering what the heck I'm doing it for at this point - it was originally so I could have a point for the fun thing I do.

We need a topic for stock photography where we can critique our rejected stock photos. I'll have a pile of them...

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Beamer. I really respect your work and comments here!

PhotoDaniels (Stephanie Daniels) said 1 year ago:

I need to see weeklyshot.org. I don't know what happened with onexposure.net but I submitted something, it was turned down and I asked what could have been better - cause there was no reason - and now I'm blocked from it. That was a year or two ago. It was weird, too! I just couldn't log on anymore. Oh well...this place is better.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I spent some time exploring the microstock/stock thing and decided it wasn't for me. My decision was mostly because at the time I was shooting mostly fine art landscapes and they basically will tell you they just don't need/want any more of that. The other thing for me was when I looked at the galleries of the more active photographers, the stuff they were shoot just bored me to tears. I don't really need the money, so maybe I am a little elite by making that statement, but...
There is something in the onexposure FAQ's about contacting support if you cannot login. Look in the "info" tab on the homepage.

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the concept and composition of this photo. It appears that the jeans are more in focus than the tattoo. I think it would have been better to have a even more of a shallow DOF with only the tattoo in focus providing more skin texture. I think you almost have it, but instead the concentration is on the lip of the jeans.

I can't decide if you should have pulled back more or not. I do like the way it is cropped. I'd probably have to see it the other way to tell. I like the hint of the bare breast. It provides the contrast to the cross & wings giving you the 'story'. I think a little more of the breast should be shown to help hint the viewer with the story some more.

Again, I think everything is really good except for the focus point not being on the tattoo itself.

Neuner added a critique 1 year ago:

I don't mean to clutter this comment area with off topic discussion, but Beamer, I followed your link to Onexposure and even though I was in awe at first, all of the photos are turning out to be the same. They are all trying to 'convey a story' and it gets old. You don't see fantastic photos of simple every day objects or situations which opens up a whole different world. So, along with that I don't think anyone should be disappointed that their images weren't accepted on some of these other sites because they are all becoming very mondain.

Very nice shot...however, my perception is that someone is in trouble. Hands on her hips...

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

This would be 100 time more interesting if you were in front of her. At the same time, the "walking uphill" symbolism is good too.

jcniguez (José Carlos Ñíguez) said 1 year ago:

thank´s to everybody for your personal perceptions of the shot.
I did that photo to show the difficulty of that old woman trying to "walking uphill"...years go by and that is the only true for everyone.

Enjoy with the photos.

niguez (Andrés Ñíguez) added a critique 1 year ago:

Realmente has captado toda una historia resumida en un clik.
La posición del pie izquierdo transmite sensación de movimiento, pero un movimiento lento y pausado propio de la edad de la señora.
Felicidades.

alek (alek lindus) added a critique 1 year ago:

the blur in this reminds me of a film still, that kind of moment in motion feel that they have when taken out of a context. Now because she's wearing black it works because of the dominant focus, and i like that you've caught her back; it conveys the age, tiredness of body and the uphill sweep of her journey, focusing on these elements without the inevitable distraction of face. As a picture in the topic - shot with a story it works extremely well, everything is geared for that.
would i like to see this in sharp focus? i don't know, perhaps the mood would be lost

Ok, I'd like to know the story here. Waiting for a plane and taking a nap? Perhaps he's a germ-a-phobe. I'm not entirely sure he has hands either!

Very good photo for the topic!

rvercesi (Ricardo Vercesi) said 1 year ago:

This shot was taken at 5:30am in Lisbon's International Airport. There were several travelers sleeping in many strange positions but this one shouted "bizarre", so I took it!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

Great shot!! My only comment would be to correct the white balance a little for the fluorescent light.

rvercesi (Ricardo Vercesi) said 1 year ago:

I thought of that but instead preferred to enhance that fluorescent tone. Almost as if it was cross processed.

Ok here is the rundown.
This was shot in June of this year.
These are my grandparents.
This was a shot before they entered the party for their 50th anniversary.
The car is the transport to and from the event.
This is actually one of my uncle's cars and they thought it would give the part a nostalgic feel.
So, MMeye, you were real close!

Side note:
This was featured in the local paper under their 50 years later theme.
This was also entered into the Western Idaho Fair and received and Honorable Mention in the Portrait category!

weeneydog (Keith Johnson) added a critique 1 year ago:

Really nice. I love the old car. I agree with the exposure on the faces. Over all, Great job.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for the comment.
I really wish the faces were better but what can i do now!

tzirlott (Tom Zirlott) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the picture, I like the theme. It goes back to another time. It could just be my monitor but it looks like the picture was taken through a screen. There is a texture there. The old B&W polaroids that I remember, and this reminds me of one of those, were sharp as tacks.

mikeock (Mike Adams) said 1 year ago:

tzirlott,
I added grain/noise to it to bring out the feel that I was looking for.
That is what you are seeing.

Thanks all for the feature!

Well done. I love the simplicity of this shot as well as the composition. I'm not usually a fan of photos that are divided in half, but it works in this one.

This is lovely! The person in the badground is a bit distracting but the color in those flowers makes up for it!

Blumie (Sabine) said 1 year ago:

Thank you so much for your nice words and you are right - I should have cloned out that person. I was to much concentrated on the wedding people, I guess ...
