Very nice take on a common motif Tobias!! My only critique would be that the tonal range is a little bit flat. Maybe a little more work in curves?
sanders (Marc Sanders) added a critique 21 days ago:
Also I would like to see the shot wider to get more a sense of the creek snakeing through the frame.
kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 19 days ago:
i think the only thing i would critique..is the sun coming through the trees.
but other than that...
the composition is perfect..and its an overall beautiful shot!

Taken today in Joshua Tree NP, California. 2 nights ago there was a "once in a generation" snowfall. Local say it's been over 30 years since this much snow fell.
bradford (Bradford Levine) said 16 days ago:
Beautiful. I really like the texture of the snow in the foreground,
sfkp (Tamara) said 15 days ago:
OMG! A few months back I had a sunstroke in this area! I didn't expect this was possible! I hardly can't keep my eyes off of it, very beautiful indeed.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 15 days ago:
Thank you Tamara, really special time here in Southern California lately. Even up on the mountains behind my house LOT'S of snow!!

Beautiful soft tones - nice coloration. Did you crop the left side? I wish the little curly part of the flower hadn't been cut off
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 17 days ago:
Bradford is right about the composition, it is badly off balance You really need some "breathing room" on the left. And maybe a little dodging and burning to pull out the middle of the flower a little better. This is oh so close to being REALLY good!! I love the DoF overall and the detail and texture in the upper right corner.
kseniaC (ksenia) said 17 days ago:
thank you for comments...
helps out ALOT..and i see the problems...
except i dont really understand the terms..."dodging and burning"
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 17 days ago:
Can be done either in a darkroom or in software like Photoshop:
kseniaC (ksenia) said 16 days ago:
hmm.
ill def have to learn how to do that....

Yes, very nice image Jonathan. I love the "soft" tonal range, perfect for the subject.Did you add a little glow, I think maybe yes, but very tastefully done.
Hey mooch, you been real quiet lately??? Busy reading 1x forums I guess... BTW, this image fits this Topic perfectly!! As does Will's:
www.vazaar.com/topic:bokeh/photos/id:33698/
and
www.vazaar.com/topic:bokeh/photos/id:24883/
and

just to beat a dead horse...
Sorry to hijack your image Jonathan...
jonathanpatt (Jonathan Patt) said 17 days ago:
The only adjustments on this, actually, are a bit of desaturation and some curves to pop out the whites.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 17 days ago:
Bravo!!
mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) said 17 days ago:

If you are quoting this:
"An extremely shallow depth of field, a common effect of macro lenses, emphasizes bokeh"
I feel vindicated. Shallow DoF does emphasize bokeh but shallow DoF is not bokeh.
I'm referring to the article specifically concerned with bokeh to be found on wiki:
All images on that page show bokeh. With one exception; the example without bokeh.
The thread you have initiated should help to clarify.
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 20 days ago:
This is starting to get ridiculous, the image of the page of text most definitely has bokeh. The caption would make no sense at all if it didn't. If the image has no bokeh, how can the image's bokeh be emphasized???
I have never suggested that shallow dof is the same as bokeh. Bokeh, pleasing or ugly, is, however, one result of shallow dof. And my contention is that it is ALWAYS a result of it, regardless of the background. If the background has points of light or other hight contrast areas, then there will be circle shapes in the bokeh. If the background is simple and low contrast like the one above, then there will not be any circles in the bokeh. There are thousands of examples of images on the internet with beautiful bokeh, but no circle or hexagon shapes in it.
This page is a good representation of what I am saying:
www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/662530/2
If you scroll down this page of images, every single image has bokeh, some have circle shapes in the bokeh, some do not. The presence or absence of circle shapes is totally dependent on the content of the background of each shot. But, surely you cannot point to any one image on that page and say it does not have bokeh, can you?

I don't know nothing about nothing. but the person that wrote the description of this topic was asking for:

Superb blur backgrounds with small depth of field.

Do you shoot raw? You might want to do so.
cvsuave (Chadler) added a critique 2 months ago:
I agree with warreagle
I think cropping the top would really emphasize the your sunset
but its really nice!
great shot!

3 cm at the top, 1 cm at the bottom. Crop thus and its a gem.
sendhil76 added a critique 21 days ago:
The image can do with some colour balancing as i see a red cast, cropping to bring out the points of interest an finally some sharpening!
mariob (Mario Bonanno) added a critique 17 days ago:
This image has a bit of a "wow" factor. The only things I would do to it is a bit of noise reduction and sharpening. Other than that, the dark blue sky at the top gives it a real sense of low light, and the black shadows at the bottom really help that along too.
Maybe a bit smaller so the window rolls better, but I really like it.
I really like the water flowing through the rocks. I feel as if I'm more than just a viewer of the photograph. It's as if I'm part of the image. I find the sun coming through the trees a bit distracting though. All in all, a nice photograph.
